OISCA has started to construct a beautiful butterfly garden at Krishna Menon Museum, Calicut as a part of our Childrens Forest Programme. Since Krishna Menon Museum is very close to our office we decided we will start the butterfly garden there, Already we had conducted some tree planting programmes in this museum compound. It will be useful for School children from all parts of Calicut to visit the garden to learn about Eco systems. Butterfly gardens play an important role in conserving the local butterfly fauna and in promoting conservation awareness among the public.
All expenses for the setting up of the garden like procurement of flowering plants, medicinal plants, building a pathway, small ponds, Notice boards of different species of butterflies and plants are done by OISCA. Our main objective is to offer awareness for students and the general public. The students can understand on butterfly visits and the various life stages of several species of butterflies. College students can utilize the garden for doing research in the correlation of ambient temperature with butterfly activity. Close observation on butterfly behavior and insect photography can also be done at the garden. The maintenance of this garden is entrusted to Calicut women's chapter and they are doing it quite well.
